Microalgae as fish health boosters via aquafeeds

Description

Microboost is an EEA Grants funded project, which aims to develop microalgae-based functional aquafeeds, to improve fish health and resilience to pathogens. We will work with Nannochloropsis sp. and Euglena gracilis, and develop novel aquafeed products, to promote fish immunity and overall health. On the one hand, we will sellect strains and improve cultivation methods to drive microalgae productivity and biomass value. We will optimize processing to improve bioactive compounds availability and yield. On the other hand, we will focus on the development of aquafeed supplements by verifying functional claims, documenting fish health and testing their response to common aquaculture pathogens. Microboost is led by Allmicroalgae, working together with NIVA, Sparos, GreenCoLab, CIIMAR, and University of Bergen, joining expertise from Portugal and Norway. This project aligns with the Blue Growth program’s objectives, by fostering education and training, joining academic and industrial partners, and promoting cooperation, competitiveness, and overall performance, to drive the blue bioeconomy sector.
