Our scale-up pipeline considers industrial conditions from the design phase, ensuring a smooth transition across all stages of bioprocess development. Optimal strains and cultivation parameters are identified through high-throughput lab-scale testing and validated at pilot scale.
By coupling biomass production with side stream valorization, we can reduce cultivation costs while improving sustainability metrics. Feeding strategies are designed considering the efficiency of nutrient recycling and the productivity of the process.
We are working on the automation of monitoring and data acquisition through the implementation of novel inline sensors. This information feeds models that support bioprocess development and operation, and enables advanced data analysis for improved understanding of microalgae growth dynamics.

Our laboratories are equipped for custom medium preparation and lab-scale cultivation in different systems, ranging from well plates to benchtop photobioreactors and fermenters. We can run and monitor exhaustively multiple parallel tests under autotrophic, mixotrophic and heterotrophic regimes. Further scale-up is possible at our demo plant, in either pilot tubular photobioreactors, raceway ponds or flat panels.
